The village of Sanquelim is situated along the road of Mayem Lake and away from the small and loved town of Bicholim. In the mid 1700’s this area was extremely popular among the Rajput mercenaries as it was the place where the colonial government staged their successful and much talked about uprising in the 19th century.
At the south eastern part of the village of Sanquelim lies the exquisite Arvalem Waterfalls. These waterfalls are only ten minutes away from the Arvalem caves. The beautiful waterfalls are ever flowing but the best time to visit is right after the monsoon season or during the months of October and November. The water falls in full force and surrounds the entire atmosphere with calm and soothing sounds. If you are a nature lover then there is no better place to be at if you are in the locality.
The charming surroundings and the soothing sounds will surely captivate your mind, body and soul. The waterfalls fall from a fifty meter height and are surely one of my favorite backdrops to take pictures from. The Rudreshwar temple is seen from these falls. The temple holds a huge place in Hinduism because this is the temple that preached about how the soul leaves on the twelfth day of death.
The government of the land has used the beautiful nature to their advantage and improved tourism over the years. There are the Rock Cut caves to see nearby and also in recent years a park has been developed near these falls for people to relax and unwind at. The view from the park is of the falls and this is surely one view I could get used to! I spent almost five hours there until the sunset. The colors of the sky play extremely well at this place and will surround you with warm and comforting shades.
This place is a must visit if you are ever around the area. The Dudhsagar Waterfalls can also be visited if you’ve enough time. Make a trip and ensure your wanderlust needs are fulfilled!
